During The Cycle

  • Ride at a consistent pace and in a straight line.
  • Wear high visibility clothing.
  • Don't overlap your front wheel with the back wheel of the rider in front.
  • Avoid overtaking on the inside of a rider or riders.
  • Indicate before pulling off the road for any reason.
  • Check for other cyclists or traffic before re-entering the road.
  • Check behind to make sure it's clear before overtaking.
  • On narrow roads ride in single file with space between riders to allow traffic to pass safely.
  • Let traffic pass when it is safe to do so.
  • Call 'Car Back' to riders in front if car is behind you, or is overtaking.
  • Judge for yourself when crossing traffic flows - don't blindly follow the rider in front.
  • Let someone know if you need to stop for some reason.
  • Ride at your own pace, regroup at junctions and intersections.
  • After each stop check that all in the group is underway.
  • Tail end rider needs (mobile) contact with leading riders
