Membership is due for renewal on 1st July every year.

You need to be over 18 to become a Club Member, although anyone under 18 can accompany a full Member on a walk with the Trip Coordinator's permission but they cannot join the Club.

When we receive your application we will send you a copy of our current monthly Circular, a copy of our publication Safety in the Bush and a qualifying walks form so that you can get started straight away. You are now a Prospective Member.

To gain full membership you need to complete three qualifying walks and a Club Essential Skills Day within 12 months of applying for Prospective Membership. Two of these walks must be a qualifying walk advertised in the Circular and one could be a hut working bee, a club organised track clearing weekend, a training weekend (e.g. at the Steppes), a bicycle trip of at least 35 km, or a kayak trip of at least 25 kilometres [14 nautical miles] or a ski trip. You must be nominated by a Full Member of at least 12 months' standing. Full Members are issued with an annual membership card.

The Essential Skills Day is where you learn about the Club and it also includes some elementary instruction in bushcraft, map reading and use of a compass, first aid, survival and care of the bush environment.

If you are an experienced walker you can apply for exemption from the Essential Skills Day or part of it. However, even if you are experienced it is a good way to meet other members of the Club.
